Despacito was a track from the year 2017 that was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It became the top streamed and downloaded song worldwide within just 6 months. It was a blend of reggaeton and pop music which not only brought attention to Latin music but also reggaeton. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish generally, and four in 2016. During the height of Despacito's popularity in 2017, however, 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the top 100 In 2020, there were 41 songs. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix of Despacito (2017) famous artists began to collaborate with reggaeton artists, including Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna together with Maluma on Medellin (2019). From the beginning of 2020, some reggaeton musicians protested that the genre was heading towards popular. Rauw Alajandro is a part of a new generation looking to alter the course. Incorporating elements of electronic dance music, and different styles was an accepted practice.
