Lee Roy Selmon blends the merits of football scholarship in his family with the benefits of community service. The first line of his family was that Selmon is the eldest of nine kids raised in Eufala by Lucious Selmon. A second reason was Selmon is the youngest of three brothers to play for Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey was a starter for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy received the Outland and Lombardi Awards for being the best lineman of the United States. In three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy as the starter. They also won 2 national titles. As a National Football Foundation Scholarship-Athlete, Selmon was awarded a scholarship for the third year in the year 1975. Selmon received his bachelor's degree in education. Lee Roy spent ten hours per week volunteering throughout his time at college. Following graduation Lee Roy relocating to Tampa which is where he played for nine years playing with the Buccaneers. There were three times he was named an All-Pro. He began his business career. His first job was as a Account Relations Officer with First Florida Bank, Tampa. He has worked in the past for Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's most outstanding young men. Lee Roy was 6'2" tall and weighed 265 lbs when he played college football. The year 1975 was the first time he was the captain of the squad. He joined the University of South Florida as the associate director of athletics. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, and the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1995, the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave the Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Jr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma made the presentation.
